Ode to sweet satisfaction

The pastry counter, I can barely order a coffee without taking a look at the beautifully arranged turnovers, giant muffins, and sweet cupcakes. Whether you are 87, 23 (in my case), or 5 years old nothing tops off (or begins) a day better than knowing the sweet treat pulled from underneath the counter has your name on it.
As I was waiting in line for my coffee refill this afternoon I was reminded of the satisfaction of the afternoon treat - I usually tune out the counter person when they attempt to distract me from my mission of consuming a mere coffee for my afternoon delight. In front of me stood two young boys, accompanied by their mother and caretaker, googling at the sparkling doughnuts and the indisputably worthy chocolate chip cookies. Their enthusiasm made me take a second glance.
"I will take 4 of the chocolate chip cookies," said the woman at the front of the line.
My heart dropped as he fearfully began to count.
"If I don't have that chocolate chip cookie I will die,"  he screamed.
  I felt his pain.
Luckily, there was one left.
I couldn't help but laugh because I immediately recognized his apprehension.
Sweet, sweet satisfaction.
